Book Presentation
🌊 Some stories should never be forgotten because they are part of who we are.
This Monday at 8:00 p.m., the Auditorium of the Casa de Cultura in Calp will host the presentation of Del Peñón de Ifach al Río Guadalete, a book by Juan Roselló that preserves the memory of hundreds of families from Calp who once set out for El Puerto de Santa María to earn their living from the sea.
⚓ Born out of a deep love for our roots, this work brings together personal testimonies, historical documents and 944 photographs to pay tribute to those who made fishing far more than just a profession: a way of life, a legacy, and a bond that forever united Calp and El Puerto de Santa María.
💙 The project also has a strong charitable purpose: all proceeds from the sale of the book will be donated to the Maite Boronat Occupational Centre. -
🔹The Regional Minister for Environment, Infrastructure and Territory, Vicente Martínez, visited Calp this morning to officially inaugurate the facilities of Marina PortBlanc. Accompanied by the Mayor, members of the Town Council, and representatives of the concessionaire company, he toured the facilities of the new marina.
🔹Construction work on the Puerto Blanco Marina began in September 2023 and included major maritime engineering works, such as dredging the inner harbour basin. These highly complex operations were carried out in dry conditions, requiring the construction of a temporary dam at the harbour entrance to prevent seawater from entering, while dewatering pumps operated 24 hours a day.
🔹The rock breakwater was reinforced with the placement of around 20,000 tonnes of large boulders, as this area had been particularly exposed during storms. In addition, a gate was installed at the harbour entrance to reduce the strong wave action inside the marina basin.
🔹The new marina features a land area with promenades, commercial premises, restaurants and parking facilities. It also includes a water surface of approximately 10,000 m², providing more than 150 berths for jet skis and boats up to 15 metres in length.
🔹The Puerto Blanco beach has also been regenerated, allowing this small stretch of coastline to gain around 700 square metres of additional beach area.
The project was carried out with a total budget of €9,349,042.
